Only in the contemporary age has it reached a central position. At present it is defined as a literary genre , due to the often poetic and careful language used by the authors, but in reality, the essay can not always be classified as such. Sometimes it is reduced to a series of ramblings, most of the time of a critical aspect, in which the author expresses his reflections on a certain topic or even without a topic at all.

The trial, unlike the text informative, does not have a structure defined nor systemized or compartmentalized into sections or lessons, so that from the Renaissance a more open genre that the medieval Tractatus was considered or addition and is considered distinct from it also due to his artistic desire for style and his subjectivity, since he does not intend to inform, but to persuade or convince. It uses the expository-argumentative discursive modality and a type of "soft reasoning" that has been studied by Chaïm Perelman and Lucie Ollbrechts-Tyteca in their Treatise on argumentation.

Structure

The structure of the essay is extremely flexible, since all systematization is alien to its essential purpose, which is to delight through the exposition of a point of view that does not pretend to exhaust a subject, as the merely expository literary genre would (and systematically) do. treaty; therefore these indications are merely indicative.

Introduction

Main article: Introduction

It is the one that expresses the theme and objective of the essay; It explains the content and the subtopics or chapters it covers, as well as the criteria that are applied in the text, it is 10% of the essay and it covers more or less 6 lines.

This part constitutes the presentation of the subject on which the author is going to develop his own point of view, as well as the reasons why he considers it important to approach said subject. In addition, this part can present the problem that it poses to the topic to which we are going to focus our knowledge, reflections, readings and experiences. If this arises, then the aim of the essay will be to present our point of view on the problem (its possible explanation and possible solutions ). Most of the time, however, the essay raises a topic that is generic enough to delve into it with all the freedom of a wanderer with opinions and beliefs, but wandering through unknown territory.

Developing

It contains the exposition and analysis of this, the own ideas are raised and they are supported with information from the necessary sources : books , magazines, Internet , interviews and others. It constitutes 80% of the trial. In it, the entire topic is developed, using the internal structure: 60% synthesis , 10% summary and 10% comment.

The thesis is supported , already proven in the content, and it is deepened more about it, either offering answers about something or leaving final questions that motivate the reader to reflect. This mainly uses resources such as description , narration and quotes that must be included in quotation marks in order to have what to defend our thesis.

Conclusion

In this section the author expresses his own ideas on the subject, he is allowed to give some solution suggestions, close the ideas that were worked on in the development of the subject and propose lines of analysis for subsequent writings. They look at the other 10% of the essay, about half a page.

This last part maintains a certain parallelism with the introduction by direct reference to the essayist's thesis, with the difference that in the conclusion the thesis must be deepened, in light of the approaches exposed in the development. It can be "inferred" in this, which is the way to verify what was said previously, explaining why it supports a topic or an opinion and the motivations that lead it to develop it or to finish it in a better way.

Logic in the essay

The logic is crucial in a trial and to achieve it is somewhat simpler than it seems: depends primarily on the organization of ideas and presentation. To convince the reader, one must proceed in an organized way from formal explanations to concrete evidence, that is, from facts to conclusions. To achieve this the writer can use two types of reasoning: inductive logic or deductive logic.

According to inductive logic, the writer buy a research papers for college and begins the essay by showing concrete examples and then deducing general statements from them. To be successful , you must not only choose your examples well, but also present a clear explanation at the end of the essay. The advantage of this method is that the reader participates actively in the reasoning process and therefore it is easier to convince him.

In accordance with deductive logic, the writer begins the essay by showing general statements, which he progressively documents by means of concrete examples. To be successful, the writer must explain the thesis very clearly and then must use transitions so that readers follow the logic / argumentation developed in the thesis. The advantage of this method is that if the reader supports the general statement and the arguments are well constructed, he will generally accept the conclusions.
